SHARING A MEAL WITH ARTISTS
Collaborative and on-going

For these interviews, I attempt to bring the same comfort, familiarity, and collaborative moment between myself and each artist that is often felt when enjoying a meal. The main ingredient of these interviews is discovery: between the artist and myself, between the artist and the way they discuss their work, between us and our meal, and between the artist and the reader.

SHARING A MEAL WITH ARTISTS emerged from real life every day experiences. Leaving the west coast behind after finishing my bachelors and trying my hand on the east coast, New York City specifically, left me with a small group of friends and a lifestyle I had never known.

As I gained momentum working my first salaried position, routine set in. The rotating housemates of my first New York apartment eventually settled as well, providing the opportunity for a friendship to blossom between myself and one housemate in particular. What often brought us together was our evening meal. We eventually planned dinners together for a number of nights where we commiserated about our days, inquired about each other's careers, and shared our hopes for the future. I found comfort in these meals and our time together. This created an immensely positive experience and memory that I have carried with me ever since.

With each interview edition comes a recipe straight from the artist themselves, be it a new or a personal one. Dinner, lunch, mid day snack or evening cocktail. Each interview is not only a chance to get to know the artist and their current practice, but also a moment of collaboration. Like many recipes, some questions marinate and simmer, giving space for the artist to feel comfort and pleasure in describing their work the same way each bite or sip of our meal together generates a shared experience.
